Design for
Recognition.
Have you ever heard a recording of your own voice
and thought, “Is that really my voice?”
You have heard it all your life.
But the moment you hear it from the outside,
you recognize it in a different way.
RIBMA is a three-minute app
designed as a starting point for recognizing yourself.
Seeing yourself from outside yourself
With RIBMA,
you shift your vantage point to a position outside yourself
and observe yourself from there.
What are you thinking right now?
How are you feeling?
What is happening in your body?
Rather than looking for answers
or digging into the reasons why,
you first recognize what is there.
Why RIBMA?
An instrument needs regular tuning, whether it is being played or not.
Because it is natural for its condition to shift little by little in response to its environment.
We, too, are constantly changing, little by little, in the course of everyday life.
RIBMA is not an app designed to return you to a “neutral” state.
It is about shifting your vantage point outside yourself,
and seeing what kind of sound you are making right now.
A three-minute experience of recognition.
About 40 seconds of RIBMA
We took parts of the actual visuals and narration
used in the three-minute version
and re-edited them into about 40 seconds.
You can experience a small part of what RIBMA does
using the same material as the three-minute version.

For about the first minute and a half,
you breathe slowly
and move into a quieter state.
Then, from the “you” on the screen,
another, semi-transparent you appears.
The vantage point can move freely,
farther from or closer to the body.
From there,
you observe yourself as you are now.
After three minutes,
the vantage point slowly returns to its original position.
When to use RIBMA
In the middle of work.
After talking with someone.
Before making a decision.
In the morning or at night.
Even when nothing in particular is happening.
At first, you might place three minutes
somewhere in your day.
But it does not need to become a habit.
The aim is not to remain
in a vantage point outside yourself.
You look at yourself from there once,
then return to everyday life.
Three minutes, when you feel you need it.
That is enough.
About the audio
RIBMA uses binaural beats.
For the intended audio experience,
we recommend using earphones or headphones.
During the experience,
do not do anything else at the same time.
Do not use RIBMA while driving
or in any situation that requires attention for safety.
What may happen with RIBMA
When you look at yourself from outside yourself,
you may recognize something
that was already within you
but that you had not recognized before.
It may be what you are thinking right now.
It may be what you are feeling.
It may be a sensation in your body.
Afterward,
you may feel a little clearer,
or feel that things themselves seem clearer.
You may recognize something.
Or nothing in particular may happen.
Either is fine.
You do not need to change
what you recognize.
RIBMA does not decide
what you do next.
What RIBMA does not promise
RIBMA does not promise
to change you.
Its purpose is not to solve problems
or to make you a “better version” of yourself.
And if this vantage point becomes familiar,
you may no longer need the app itself.
The name RIBMA
The name RIBMA
contains four words.
Not to correct yourself back to a “right state,”
but to check where you are now.
What intention does
the embodied you hold right now?
What is happening
in this body right now?
The whole of the space, air, sense of presence,
and environment extending beyond the body.
